Job Description Summary:

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, & Criminal Justice invites applications for the position of full-time, Assistant or Associate Professor in Criminal Justice. We are seeking candidates who can teach core criminal justice courses. Police and Society is preferred but we are open to applicants who can teach other core courses such as Delinquency and Juvenile Justice, Criminal Law and the Courts, and Corrective and Rehabilitative Institutions. We are also open to other criminal justice specialties. Applicants must provide evidence of an active research agenda. A productive research program is a requirement for this position. Candidates with both quantitative and qualitative skills are encouraged to apply. Oakland University's Criminal Justice program values diversity and issues related to social justice. Therefore, candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will teach three courses in one semester and two in another semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in sociology, criminology, or criminal justice is required. ABD candidates will be considered but will be appointed at the rank of Instructor until evidence of Ph.D. completion is provided. A background in sociology is preferred. Applicants must provide evidence of an active research agenda.

In addition, candidates applying for the Associate Professor position must meet the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice's criteria for achieving tenure and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in the form of teaching documents. Teaching documents include: course evaluations and other teaching materials such as syllabi and assignment samples. Finally, applicants for the Associate Professor position are expected to have engaged in various, applicable levels of service (i.e. departmental, college, university, professional). Applicants will be asked for the names and email addresses of three references in the application process. References will be contacted to upload the letter of reference directly.
