Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – Part-Time (20 hours/week)

Location: Easton, CT (Private Special Education School)

Schedule: 20 hours per week (flexible within the school day)

Reports to: Supervising Occupational Therapist

About the Position

[Our Client] is seeking a dedicated and motivated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our private pediatric occupational therapy practice. This position involves providing on-site occupational therapy services within a private special education school in Easton, CT , serving elementary and middle school students with autism spectrum disorder and related developmental, communication, and sensory modulation/regulation needs.

You will be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and special educators—all committed to supporting each student’s success. The COTA will work under the supervision of an experienced OT and will play an integral role in helping students develop the skills necessary for greater independence, participation, and self-regulation in their daily routines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct individual and small-group occupational therapy treatment under the supervision of a licensed OT.
  • Implement treatment plans addressing fine and gross motor development, sensory modulation, self-regulation, postural control, and attention.
  • Collaborate with the supervising OT and school staff to support carryover of strategies within classroom and daily school routines.
  • Accurately complete documentation and progress notes in accordance with practice and professional standards.
  • Assist in preparing materials, adapting activities, and maintaining therapy spaces.
  • Participate in team meetings, interdisciplinary communication, and professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong follow-through in all aspects of service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current certification through NBCOT (National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy).
  • Valid Connecticut state license (or eligibility for licensure) as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Prior experience with children with autism or significant sensory and communication challenges preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Dependable, positive, and motivated to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families.
