Job Description

Position Summary We are a dynamic, fast-scaling private enterprise looking to hire a seasoned finance leader to serve as our Controller - we are completely open to someone who is currently an Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller who is ready for the next step in their career . This individual will be entrusted with end-to-end ownership of our financial infrastructure, including oversight of accounting processes, fiscal planning, compliance, and internal risk controls. Reporting directly to the ownership group, the ideal candidate will bring a proactive mindset, deep industry experience, and the ability to navigate complex financial environments. Primary Responsibilities Financial Oversight & Controls Lead the daily functions of the finance department, encompassing invoicing, collections, vendor payments, journal entries, asset costing, inventory reconciliation, and income tracking. Design, implement, and refine internal processes to safeguard accuracy and accountability in financial data. Strategic Budgeting & Forecasting Drive the creation and management of annual financial plans, reforecasting efforts, and variance analysis. Partner with leadership to deliver actionable insights that align financial resources with strategic goals. Reporting & Compliance Deliver timely and accurate monthly financial packages, including consolidated statements and operational analysis. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and statutory requirements at the local, state, and federal levels. Month-End & Year-End Processes ~ Oversee all activities related to period-end closings, ensuring precision and compliance with established timelines. Accounting Standards & Technical Research ~ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting frameworks and lead research on emerging financial reporting standards (e.g., US GAAP). Policy Development & Audit Readiness Formalize and maintain accounting manuals and business policies to enhance internal governance and readiness for audits. Support tax filing preparation and liaise with external partners on regulatory submissions. Operational Support ~ Provide hands-on assistance for special projects, cross-functional initiatives, or any other tasks required by executive leadership. Qualifications & Expertise Industry Experience: Prior experience in financial leadership within multi-family real estate is essential. Exposure to hospitality or restaurant operations is a valuable asset. Professional Background: A minimum of 7 years in progressively senior finance or accounting roles. Education: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required. CPA or CMA designation strongly preferred. Accounting Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting best practices, and general ledger systems. Software Proficiency: Strong command of accounting platforms; Yardi experience is mandatory . Familiarity with Great Plains is a plus. Systems Acumen: Skilled in managing financial systems and workflows, with a working knowledge of IT infrastructure. Travel & Field Readiness: Must be open to domestic and international travel and willing to conduct on-site operational visits .
