Job Summary: The Director of Information Technology is responsible for staying abreast of all current technology associated with the Property and Casualty insurance industry and leads the team of implementation specialists to drive transformation and advancements with improved technologies. This position also brings new innovative ideas, capabilities, and features, concerning technology to the President and executive team for consideration as changes occur in the insurance technology landscape.
Core Responsibilities/duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Senior Leadership Accountabilities: Lead a team of managers and technical staff. Ensure that managers provide focus and direction to their respective teams. Actively and continuously evaluate, articulate and model organizational culture through shared assumptions, values, and beliefs. Foster development of leaders and create a culture of accountability. Develop goals, strategic plans, company policies, and make decisions on the direction of the organization. Mobilize and influence external stakeholders and outside resources. Effectively communicate sr. leadership decisions and organizational strategy and plans to managers. Also, share key external updates with the team. Set performance indicators and drive accountability to key objectives and measurements.
- Improve organizational effectiveness through development, implementation and maturation of communications and IT initiatives. Leads the business through all efforts that drive business performance and potential by using the existent and new data sources and innovative techniques.
- Interface with the insurance division leadership, collaborating on priorities, ensuring decisions are informed with analysis that is in service of company goals.
- Provide oversight of all IT-related projects to ensure on-time, on-budget and on-scope delivery and achievement of intended benefits.
- Lead and establish IT governance including policy, standards, procedures, controls and audit,
- Lead and establish IT risk management including risk identification, assessment and mitigation planning, through participation in business continuity planning to ensure the appropriate disaster recovery plans are in place.
- Ensure the development of the entire IT department in a manner that maximizes individual growth, accountability and performance.
- Establish IT performance metrics, ensure measurement and drive continuous improvement.
- Monitor emerging technology trends and identify opportunities to leverage technology to achieve the organization’s goals.
- Manage key vendors, ensuring contracts are in place and the intended services and value are being delivered.
- Experience designing products for flawless delivery through multiple distribution channels (branch agents, call center agents, online, and other alternative distribution channels)
- Coordinate the integration of data, information, and communications systems and serve as the catalyst for new systems development.
- Formulate and lead vision and strategy for data analytics, reporting and supporting data environments - working across Technical and Operations.
- Provide knowledge, guidance and recommendations to the President and executive team regarding value added and new technology.
- Partner with peer IT leaders across CAVCO IT, leveraging shared service models and processes to drive high availability and operational efficiency.
- Review and analyze competitors’ technology to determine value proposition for the company.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Texas Department of Insurance, Sarbanes Oxley, Internal Audit, and external audit.

Required Job Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Systems, or equivalent education and work experience
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience tracking and analyzing a wide variety of technology products in the insurance industry with proven leadership or management experience
- Ten (10 to fifteen (15) years of Information Technology experience to include application/product development, system integration, and application deployment.
- Solid knowledge and understanding in all property and casualty insurance products as well as information systems infrastructure, networks, network components, and topologies
- Solid knowledge and understanding of the software development lifecycle including application design, testing, query and database tools.
- Experience designing products for flawless delivery through multiple distribution channels (branch agents, call center agents, online, and other alternative distribution channels)
- Demonstrate experience producing accurate and detailed work on multiple projects under time pressure while working in a fast paced and changing environment with attention to detail, time management, written and oral communication, multi-tasking and working in a team atmosphere adhering to tight deadlines
- Experience discussing complex business and technology issues with business users and customers, while effectively managing relationships with internal and external partners
Work Environment and Physical Demands with reasonable accommodation:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and be able to operate a computer or other office productivity machinery on a constant basis
- Frequently required to communicate with co-workers and policy holders with the ability to exchange accurate information as necessary
- Occasionally required to move about the office, ascend/descend stairs or a ladder or position self to maintain computers at workstation, including under the desk and in the server closet
- Occasionally required to move and place objects weighing less than or equal to 20 pounds
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
