Job Description

Kelly Government Solutions is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. Kelly Government Solutions offers scientists the opportunity to support basic and applied research projects designed to protect our military and nation from current and emerging biological threat agents. We are seeking a Histology Technician to support these efforts in a Department of Defense laboratory in Frederick, MD . ***Position contingent upon contract award.***

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

The Contractor Shall:

  • Conduct and support necropsy procedures, including specimen collection (tissues, fluids, cultures), proper labeling, preservation, and disposal in accordance with institute biosafety protocols.
  • Perform routine and special histology including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, embedding, sectioning, staining, and archival of tissue specimens.
  • Accession and document all case materials using pathology databases and maintain accurate records of specimens, photos, and gross findings.
  • Operate, clean, and calibrate laboratory instruments and microscope slide scanning systems (e.g., Olympus VS200) to generate digital images for review.
  • Assist with ultrastructural and molecular pathology lab operations, maintaining compliance with biosafety and GLP requirements, and ensuring the labs are inspection-ready and fully stocked.
  • Mentor and skill-verify new technicians; train lab staff and investigators on specimen handling and lab safety practices for molecular and histopathology procedures.
  • Review, revise, and assist with SOP development, including quality control checks, periodic review updates, and documentation for approvals.
  • Support manuscript and publication development, and attend one scientific conference per year to stay current with pathology techniques and trends.
  • Participate in regular and job-specific training programs, including required GLP training, and maintain compliance with Pathology Division policies.
  • Work variable hours including occasional nights and weekends based on technical workload and research needs.

Qualification Requirements:

  • HT (ASCP) certification strongly preferred; equivalent experience in necropsy, histology, or pathology laboratory operations will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in tissue collection, histology techniques, immunohistochemistry, digital pathology, and operating within biocontainment environments (BSL-1 through BSL-4).
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment, microscopy, digital imaging systems, SOP documentation, and data entry into pathology databases.
  • Must meet and maintain eligibility for BPRP enrollment , pass an SSBI background investigation, and FBI Security Risk Assessment (SRA).
