Job Description

Staff Accountant - Homebuilding

Tricoast Homes is a premier builder of highly-amenitized and affordable homes in the greater Houston area. We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to perform general accounting operations including entering and verifying financial transactions, reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger accounts, preparing month-end closing procedures, and completing tasks related to cash flow management. A successful staff accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a good knowledge of accounting principles. The ideal candidate has experience in homebuilding and a desire to grow into a Senior Accountant and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Post accounts payable
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Prepare bank account and general ledger reconciliations
  • Post revenue entries, month-end accruals, and allocations
  • Record incoming wire transfers and returned items
  • Perform month-end close processes
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Support the creation of operating budgets and review budget versus actual
  • Assists in special project analysis
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Consult with the Controller to improve financial procedures

Skills / Education / Experience

  • Proven experience as a staff accountant.
  • Good knowledge of basic and intermediate accounting procedures
  • Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) – applicable to homebuilding is a plus.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills – accuracy and attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent. CPA is a plus.
  • 2 to 4 years of related experience in financial and managerial accounting
