Job Description

Job Summary:

The House Manager (HM) works under the daily oversight of the Case Manager (CM) and is managed by the Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP). The HM is responsible for providing daily oversight of one facility, staff, and up to 6 clients during scheduled shifts, and in the absence of the CM.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises client/staff daily routines, and ensures staff follow agency policies and procedures as related to assigned duties.
  • Ensures clients personal items are kept clean, rotated, inventoried, and in working order including but not limited to client grooming items, clothing, and adaptive equipment. 
  • Ensures cleanliness of all facility areas daily.
  • Regularly provides individualized care and attention to clients including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, incontinence care, toileting, transferring of, medication administration, and any other client care needs not provided by Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).
  • Provides coverage for open shifts. Assists with staff scheduling during the absence of the CM.
  • Ensures required shift responsibilities are being completed including, but not limited to, administering, and storing of medication, adhering to client diets, storing and labeling of food, regulating facility water temperatures, and monitoring of client weights.
  • Maintains an inventory of house supplies, medications, food to satisfy the weekly menu, disaster supplies, and purchases/orders what is needed.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and attends medical appointments with clients and provides follow-up results and instructions to facility nurse.
  • Ensures client health care plans are followed daily.
  • Assists the CM in providing additional and on-going training to facility staff as needed for compliance.
  • Ensures client participation in community activities per required guidelines.
  • Reconciles monthly credit card and house bank paperwork, including but not limited to turning in receipts and recording transactions.
  • Ensures phone, transportation and census logs are accurately completed, and submitted to the appropriate department within required timeframes.
  • Completes required monthly training and participates in agency meetings as assigned.
  • Completes daily documentation including health tracking, data collection, shift notes, and client injury reports as required using facility established web-based application. Reports clients/staff injuries to the CM, QIDP, and Human Resources immediately. 
  • Provides recommendations for the development of staff evaluations and Disciplinary Action Reports (DAR).
  • Monitors the facility, vehicle, and IT equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 12 months of experience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • The ability to read, write and understand the English language.
  • Familiar with using computers, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Operation of agency vehicle to safely transport clients.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations applicable to assigned facilities or services is preferred.
  • Must be over the age of 18 years old.
  • Must maintain a valid California driver license and safe driving record. Must have 2 years of licensed driving experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/ First Aid and Pro Act[FL1] certifications.
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical and negative Tuberculosis screen, then update annually.


Physical Requirements/Work Environment:


This job operates in a residential home environment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to transfer clients. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee may frequently move to interact with fellow employees and/or clients. Additionally, the individual may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific abilities required by this job include utilizing wheelchairs, gait belts, Hoyer lifts, and buddy system lifting over 50 pounds.
