Job Description

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources and employee relations to support a positive, productive, and compliant workplace. This role is a key member of the leadership team and works closely with employees at all levels to foster an inclusive, respectful, and high-performing culture. The HR Manager ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations while developing programs to enhance employee engagement and retention.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting efforts, including job postings, interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
  • Build partnerships with local schools, ISDs, MichWorks, and co-op programs to attract future talent and promote workforce development.

Employee Relations & Culture

  • Serve as a trusted employee advocate, resolving workplace issues through effective mediation and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies and procedures; maintain and update the employee handbook as needed.
  • Drive employee engagement through recognition, communication, and company-sponsored events.
  • Monitor employee attendance, attrition, and performance, taking corrective action when appropriate.
  • Acknowledge employee milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, and special achievements.

Compliance & Training

  • Ensure full compliance with employment regulations including OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and others.
  • Track and administer required training to maintain OSHA compliance.
  • Manage worker’s compensation claims and maintain required documentation and reporting.
  • Conduct investigations into employee concerns and support related legal or regulatory issues.

Compensation, Benefits & Payroll

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, and other offerings.
  • Manage programs such as uniforms (Cintas), footwear subsidies, and prescription safety glasses.
  • Process payroll and employment changes through systems including Employee Navigator, Global Shop, and ADP.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure timely and compliant bi-weekly payroll processing.

Grants, Safety & Development

  • Lead application and administration of workforce development grants (e.g., Going Pro), including training coordination and reimbursement tracking.
  • Develop and implement employee training and development programs.
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives and ensure alignment with plant safety goals.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience including employee relations, payroll, and benefits administration.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems such as ADP, Global Shop, and Employee Navigator preferred.
  • Proven experience in managing compliance programs and workforce development partnerships.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required to other company sites or events.
