Intellian is looking for a skilled Lab Manager–Mechanical Technician to become the backbone of our engineering team. This unique hybrid role is perfect for a proactive individual who loves both the challenge of assembling complex technology and the responsibility of managing a state-of-the-art lab. You will be a central figure in our R&D process, working directly with engineers to build, test, and troubleshoot advanced components for phased-array antennas and satellite user terminals.

Top Three Skills to Be Successful in This Role:

• Complex Mechanical & Electrical Assembly: Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics to assemble, test, and troubleshoot complex subsystems for satellite terminals.
• Comprehensive Lab Management: Experience overseeing lab operations, including equipment maintenance and calibration, inventory control, supply ordering, and ensuring safety compliance.
• Rapid Prototyping & Vendor Coordination: Skill in operating 3D printers for fabricating parts and experience coordinating with external vendors for components and CAD services.

How You Will Make an Impact:

Mechanical & Technical Tasks

• Assemble complex electrical and mechanical subsystems for satellite user terminals.
• Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings to plan and execute assembly tasks.
• Conduct self-audits and verify component quality using drawings and checklists.
• Assist in writing and refining manufacturing and operational procedures.
• Operate 3D printers to fabricate mechanical parts and support rapid prototyping.
• Coordinate urgent deliveries or pickups of mechanical parts and PCBAs from local vendors.
• Collaborate with suppliers for CAD-related services and component sourcing.

Lab Management Responsibilities

• Lead daily lab operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, and safety compliance.
• Train and supervise lab personnel in proper mechanical assembly techniques and safe equipment use.
• Support the installation, calibration, and performance qualification of full systems.
• Support test equipment calibration with vendors, including managing the logistics of the equipment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support R&D, prototyping, and product validation efforts.
• Maintain detailed documentation for lab procedures, equipment maintenance, builds, and inspection records.
• Maintain lab consumable supplies, including ordering and stocking/re-stocking.
• Recommend improvements to lab workflows, tooling, and mechanical processes to increase efficiency.
• Maintain and organize all development areas, including the antenna farm on the building roof and parking deck.
• Support the internal team with the logistics and shipment of domestic and international parcels, including packaging as required.
• Manage all lab electrical power needs and maintenance in coordination with vendors.

Qualifications:

Experience

• 2-year technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience in a Mechanical, Instrumentation, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience assembling and testing instrumentation systems, R&D prototypes, or complex lab equipment.
• Experience assembling mechanical systems directly from CAD renderings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Familiarity with standard manufacturing processes.
• Preferred expereince: Knowledge of digital wireless/satellite communication systems, familiarity with phased-array antennas, and experience with environmental testing for rugged electronics.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and electrical schematics.
• Highly skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and fitting equipment (e.g., cutters, wire strippers, crimpers, torque wrenches).
• Ability to work with external vendors for CAD services and component sourcing is a plus.

Soft Skills

• Communication: Effective and clear communicator in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Teamwork: A proactive team contributor who works effectively with engineers and other technicians.

• Ability to work in a laboratory and R&D environment.
• Manual dexterity and steady hand for precise assembly of small and large components.
• Ability to lift and move equipment and materials up to 40 pounds.

Pay Transparency

The estimated salary range for this role is $92,000-$107,000. Actual pay will vary based on varying factors, including but not limited to relevant experience. Additional compensation elements may be offered depending on the role, which may include an opportunity for an annual bonus based on both company and individual performance.
