Job Description

This job posting is for an Assistant to a Microbiologist in a laboratory setting , likely within the Food & Beverage industry (since that's a plus). The role focuses on performing technical microbiological and analytical procedures during the late afternoon/evening shift (1:30 PM - 10:00 PM).

Schedule & Compensation:

Shift: 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

Core Responsibilities & Focus:

The primary duties are centered on Microbiology and Environmental Monitoring :

• Micro Plating: Preparing and testing samples for bacteria, yeast, and mold .
• Sample Collection: Performing environmental monitoring (e.g., air, surfaces), swabbing manufacturing lines, and collecting and testing treated water and CIP (Clean-in-Place) water .
• Analytical Testing (Secondary): Performing chemical and quality control tests on ingredients and finished products, including:
• Testing ingredient concentration using HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) .
• Testing finished product quality (e.g., Brix, pH, color, sensory ).
• Stress testing packaging materials.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

While a degree is not explicitly required, the candidate must possess strong hands-on experience .

• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a lab setting.
• Background: Strong science background is necessary.
• Industry: Experience in the Food & Beverage Industry is a PLUS .
• Skills: Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, and terminology ; ability to create and analyze statistical data.
• Physical: Must be able to lift 20 lbs .
• Equipment: Must have their own safety shoes and glasses .

General Lab Support Duties:

The role also includes typical laboratory support functions:

• Conferring with senior personnel regarding procedures and recommending modifications.
• Conducting literature reviews for research information.
• Procuring and ordering supplies/materials.
• Analyzing data and preparing summary reports.
