Job Overview

Aztec Software is seeking a full-time math editor with extensive math content knowledge, experience in teaching and/or educational publishing, and knowledge of and a passion for helping adult learners. The Math Editor will be responsible for developing, reviewing, proofreading, and improving mathematical manuscript content for the adult education market. The Math Editor will ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to adult education standards in print textbooks and digital courses.

Duties

  • Engage in all aspects of developmental editing, rewriting, proofreading, research, and fact-checking for math print materials, online content, and educational resources.
  • Have deep understanding of elementary to high-school level math standards, content, concepts, and skills (ideally CCRS).
  • Understand instructional design for print and online learning, best teaching practices for math content, and best teaching practices for adult learners (andragogy/heutagogy).
  • Display excellent attention to detail, effective writing skills, strong research skills, and deep knowledge of adult education.
  • Copy editing and proofreading documents in accordance with Aztec’s Style Guide and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Revising texts and images in accordance with project guidelines.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of content for print and digital resources.
  • Work with vendors, freelancers, and team members during all stages of product development including, but not limited to, writing, editing, and product launch.
  • Ensure that educational resources align with curriculum expectations, assessment company blueprints, CCRS, and are age appropriate and suitable for adult learners.
  • Meet assigned deadlines while remaining flexible in changing work priorities when needed.
  • Maintain Aztec’s publishing integrity and standards.
  • Keep abreast of curriculum changes and trends in adult education and education publishing by attending webinars and other professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute ideas for new print and digital products based on industry knowledge.

Essential Education, Skills, and Experience

  • A passion for delivering high-quality, innovative resources to adult learners.
  • Familiarity with current mathematical CCRS, content development, and andragogy/heutagogy for teaching adult learners.
  • Experience in editing math resources for adult education, including elementary, middle school, and high school levels.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft office applications (especially PowerPoint and Word), PDF markup, and other commonly used technology software and applications
  • Detail-oriented; copy-editing experience required.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to a fast-paced working environment.
  • Work effectively and efficiently from a remote location while maintaining a strong work ethic.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in math or education.
  • 1+ year teaching experience and/or educational publishing experience.

  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly over phone and other communication methods
  • May require you to be stationary sitting at your desk for long periods
