Job Description

Job Purpose: Designs and oversees the builds for mechanical and electromechanical custom automation equipment. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work with little direction but not be afraid to ask for guidance. The ideal candidate must also have good communication skills, both written and verbal. 5+ years of mechanical design experience is required.

Mechanical Automation Engineer Job Duties:

  • Attend project kick off meetings with customers on and offsite.
  • Write Project Specification Documents based on the quote documents and URS documents for assigned projects.
  • Design and detail mechanical portions of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for keeping a clean and orderly Solidworks directory structure for assigned projects.
  • Designs mechanical and electromechanical systems using Solidworks 3D design software applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, pneumatics, heat transfer, materials, etc.
  • Designs mechanical and electromechanical machines by studying customer requirements, researching, and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Completes projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform FEA's on mechanical designs as needed.
  • Visit customer sites to evaluate machine upgrades to guarding, problematic mechanical assemblies, mechanical upgrades, etc.
  • Quote solutions based on site visit evaluations.
  • Participate in the installation of solutions.
  • Design P&ID's in Draftsight/AutoCAD.
  • Work closely with Electrical and Software Engineering.
  • Conduct design reviews with customers at the company and on customers' floor.
  • Compile and release BOM's for all aspects of mechanical section of project.
  • Participate with debug and testing of assigned projects.
  • Participate in FAT's of assigned projects with customers.
  • Participate in machine installations/startups on customer's floor.
