Job Description

John Moriarty & Associates of Virginia is seeking a full-time Safety Manager to manage several construction projects in Central Virginia. The Safety Manager will be responsible for managing the safety and health requirements on all Moriarty projects.

The Safety Manager should be located within daily driving distance of the Charlottesville/Richmond area and can expect to travel between different jobsites daily.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Safety Manager will oversee all aspects of construction safety related to the project including:

  • Pre-job safety meetings with subcontractors
  • Assist project teams with subcontractor project start up including but not limited to collection of requested safety submittals, holding pre-job safety meetings, and onboarding them into safety databases
  • Conduct safety meetings with subcontractors and project teams
  • Conduct site safety orientations
  • Site walkthroughs and inspections with focus on hazard recognition, resolution, and OSHA compliance
  • Site inspections with a focus on hazard recognition, abatement, and ensuring compliance of company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Jobsite OSHA recordkeeping
  • Incident/injury investigation and recordkeeping
  • Communicate safety issues with subcontractor leadership and general workers
  • Maintain safety database for each project you are assigned

Education:

  • 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred
  • Board of Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) certified or obtaining certification in STS-C or CHST preferred
  • OSHA 30 certified
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certified preferred

Work Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the construction safety industry is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with mobile crane, tower cranes, material handling, fall protection, scaffolding, confined-space, steel erection, cast in place, excavations and pre-cast concrete erection is a plus
  • Experience investigating incidents and writing incident reports
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other applicable standards (NFPA, ANSI)
  • Ability to speak in public during safety meetings and safety stand downs.
  • Ability to address safety hazards and concerns with subcontractor employees and provide corrective actions
  • Fluency in understanding and speaking Spanish preferred
  • Ability to travel daily across DC-Metro area jobsites

Physical Requirements:

  • This position will require moderate physical activity
  • Driving between sites
  • Climbing stairs and ladders
  • Walking on rough terrain
  • Standing for long periods of time

Work Environment:

  • Work onsite, outdoors, in all weather conditions
  • The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
  • The employee will be regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
