Job Summary

Provide advanced design, development, maintenance, documentation, and support for UMROI clinical quality reporting applications. Accountable for understanding and applying key business concepts in the development of reports, dashboards, analytics, data mining, and other functions to provide historical, current, and predictive views of the business. Serve as mentor and guide for Quality & Performance Improvement Analysts. Work is performed under general direction. Direct report to the Performance Improvement Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.

  • Perform data entry, analysis and reporting in support of the Hospital’s safety and metric goals. This
  • includes unit and hospital level initiatives.
  • Work with UMROI leaders and system hospitals to acquire, manage, manipulate, and analyze data
  • and report results pertaining to clinical outcomes, compliance, and standards of care.
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations on analysis results, updates, and recommendations to
  • appropriate committee(s).
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for data collection, reporting and presentation using Excel,
  • Smartsheet and other reporting tools.
  • Lead Hospital-wide and unit-level safety and quality projects, and coach team members on project
  • management and use of performance improvement methodology to address opportunity areas.
  • Maintain and submit data to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Participate in committee meetings that support both hospital level initiatives and unit level
  • initiatives for quality improvement.
  • Support hospital regulatory surveys by staffing the resource command center, acting as a scribe,
  • and/or providing reports and supporting documentation as required. Participate in preparatory
  • drills, exercises, and rounds.
  • Support the Medical Staff Office to ensure the quality of Hospital providers by overseeing and/or
  • maintaining a system to document and report a provider’s FPPE and OPPE as per hospital policy.
  • Mentor and train hospital team members in the utilization of performance improvement tools while
  • demonstrating practical applications to operations.
  • Lead performance improvement projects to drive organizational priorities and strategic projects in
  • collaboration with departmental leadership.
  • Represent the hospital on system wide committees and make decisions on policies and applications
  • to hospital operations.
  • Participate in root cause analysis meetings to help find opportunities in processes and workflows.
  • Serve as a department lead on the intake, design, and execution of ad hoc data requests within the
  • hospital.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Education & Experience - Required

  • Master’s degree in Health Science, Healthcare Administration, Statistics, or related field.
  • 4 years’ experience working as a quality or data analyst, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • 2 years’ experience managing healthcare databases.
  • 3 years’ experience supporting and/or leading process improvement projects.

Education & Experience - Preferred

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification, or similar.
  • Performance improvement training.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis methodologies, principles and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of performance improvement methodologies (e.g., PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, data visualization, presentation development, and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with various software applications, data management systems, and
  • generating report queries and writing reports.
  • Prioritize work assignments and manage time effectively to complete duties; assess, adapt, and
  • calmly respond to changing and/or crisis environment; and make independent decisions consistent
  • with current policies; procedures and standards.
  • Advanced skill developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with all levels of
  • leadership, staff and vendors.
  • Advanced analytical, quantitative, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information clearly and concisely at
  • all levels within the organization.
  • Advanced skill managing multiple staff initiatives and meeting changing requirements and priorities
  • to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to analyze, compare, contrast, and validate work with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work.
  • Advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
