Great Oaks Learning is a growing homeschool hybrid micro-school. We meet four afternoons a week and accept students with any and all learning needs. Most of our students are neurodivergent with differences ranging from dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, physical differences and more. Our philosophy is that ALL students deserve a safe space to learn, be respected, and given the tools to succeed. Started by a licensed special education teacher/administrator who saw a great need, we are growing and need like minded individuals who accept all and understand the complexities of teaching students with varying needs. A special education background would be a huge benefit.

Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site role for a Special Education Teacher, located in Smithfield, VA. The teacher will be responsible for teaching students with and without disabilities in a hybrid homeschool micro-school setting (school is for grades 1-10, students are separated by level, not necessarily by age/grade). Day-to-day tasks include adapting teaching methods to meet the needs of students, collaborating with other educators, maintaining open communication with parents/guardians, and monitoring student progress.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Disabilities and Special Education
  • Teaching skills, particularly at the Elementary and Middle School level
  • Strong Communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field -or-
  • State certification in Special Education
  • Familiarity with IEPs and similar learning plans
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching students with special needs
  • Strong classroom management
