Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a multidisciplinary creative who can think in words, pictures, and motion. This is a hands-on, early-career role ideal for someone who enjoys sketching story ideas, writing dialogue, shaping short-form narratives, and assembling rough cuts with voice and timing. You’ll help develop stories from napkin sketch to animatic draft, contributing across our projects in animation, short film, and experimental formats.

You should be comfortable jumping into a rough idea and pushing it forward visually and narratively. One day you might sketch out a pitch, another day you might refine dialogue, another day you’re mocking up timing with ElevenLabs voiceovers and basic editing.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong interest in visual storytelling—especially in dialogue-driven scenes
  • Demonstrated ability to sketch scenes and create clear storyboards from rough concepts
  • Comfortable writing and revising dialogue for short narratives
  • Familiarity with basic editing tools (e.g., DaVinci Resolve) and AI voice tools (e.g., ElevenLabs)
  • Solid sense of timing, emotion, and scene flow
  • Ambition to go above and beyond the brief and bring ideas to life independently
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and iterating quickly

Growth Path

We’re intentional about building future DPs and writers. This role can grow toward:

  • Director of Photography — advancing your visual language around shot design, lighting, and tone
  • Writer — focusing on dialogue and short-form storytelling

Requirements

  • Strong grasp of post-production software and willingness to keep learning
  • Strong portfolio showcasing narrative video editing skills along with a solid understanding of visual storytelling techniques
  • A self-starter who doesn't wait to be told what to do
  • Prior professional experience or college degree not required
  • Ability to complete a paid test project/test edit
  • Must work in-person in San Francisco or be willing to relocate by Summer 2025

Application Requirements

  • Samples of your storyboard work or sample drawings and storytelling samples
  • Bonus Challenge: Submit a rough storyboard of a boy and his father having a conversation in a rocket bed/launchpad setting. Show us your take on tone, dialogue, and visual progression.

Why Join Us:

  • Be part of a small, driven team with big ambitions and room to grow.
  • Direct involvement in shaping the direction of a growing film studio focused on sc-fi, science, and technology.
  • Opportunity to transition into a larger role based on performance and team needs.
  • If you’re excited about telling compelling stories at the intersection of science, tech, and entrepreneurship, we’d love to hear from you!
