Job Posting: Staff Structural Designer

Position: Staff Structural Designer

Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320

Contract Duration: 10 Months

Pay Rate: $40-$52/hr

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Staff Structural Designer with 5+ years of experience , proficient in Revit and familiar with building construction in the federal market . The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be a U.S. citizen due to the nature of the work. Experience working with the Navy CAD standards is a plus. Some travel may be required throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed construction drawings for steel and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Produce a full range of drawing production work, including design layouts and calculations .
  • Execute designs for industrial, manufacturing, and federal projects , including new facilities and facility modifications.
  • Perform 2D drafting and 3D modeling to develop engineering solutions.
  • Prepare structural calculations, reports, and documentation .
  • Interpret and apply design codes and specifications .
  • Organize and maintain revisions of project drawings and related files .
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to resolve design issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in drafting technology (or related field) with 5 years of experience , OR Associate Degree with 6 years of experience , OR 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience .
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in Revit is required. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design, calculations, and engineering standards .
  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment .
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills .
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in federal building design .
  • Familiarity with Navy CAD standards .
  • Previous experience in criminal defense projects .

Interview Process:

  1. First Round: Virtual interview with senior engineers.
  2. Second Round: In-person interview.
