Summary:
The Director of Marketing Content & Operations plays a vital role in shaping how Family Dollar presents itself to its customers every day. As the steward of the brand’s visual and creative identity, this role ensures every in-store sign, seasonal campaign, and marketing message communicates value, clarity, and consistency across more than 7,000 locations.
The Director provides strategic, creative, and operational leadership, overseeing the development of creative content, marketing operations, and production processes to ensure brand consistency and drive operational efficiencies. The Director leads the planning and execution of creative initiatives across print, digital, and in-store, ensuring alignment with company goals and cross-functional business priorities.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Creative Leadership
• Translate business objectives into creative strategies that drive engagement, reinforce brand identity, and support key marketing and merchandising initiatives.
• Oversee day-to-day creative operations to ensure the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and brand consistency across all customer and associate touchpoints.
• Manage creative development for all in-store signage, promotional materials, digital campaigns, and co-branded marketing programs.
• Partners with internal teams to ensure all creative content reflects the Family Dollar value proposition and resonates with target customer segments.
• Direct seasonal creative planning and execution to support key events, holidays, and merchandising transitions.
• Collaborate with Merchandising, Marketing, Visual Merch, and Store Operations to ensure signage supports promotional strategy, seasonal resets, and key business events.
• Maintain quality control standards for all signage types, including window clings, shelf talkers, endcap headers, and promotional displays.
• Oversee the design and production of marketing collateral, including circulars, digital ads, email assets, and promotional books.
• Partner with marketing planners to lead the creative process for digital marketing, print advertising, and seasonal / promo book programs.
• Oversee the development and creative direction of PDQ brand seasonal packaging, ensuring alignment with Family Dollar’s brand standards and merchandising strategies.
• Oversee photography, styling, and content creation for product and lifestyle imagery shoots.
• Collaborate with the digital marketing team to ensure creative content aligns with audience insights, seasonal objectives, and performance goals.
Operational Management & Workflow Development
• Align creative and marketing calendars to ensure synchronized execution across digital, print, and in-store channels.
• Develop and maintain efficient creative workflows and project management processes to support end-to-end campaign execution.
• Direct signage workflows from concept through fulfillment, ensuring all marketing communication materials are accurate, timely, and brand aligned.
• Oversee the creative-to-print process, including design approvals, proofing, color management, and Quality Assurance.
• Oversee the scheduling, resourcing, and prioritization of creative projects to ensure timely delivery and balanced workloads across teams.
• Establish operational standards, templates, and review protocols to maintain brand integrity and improve productivity.
• Maintain transparent communication with leadership teams regarding creative schedules, progress, and cross-functional dependencies.
Team Leadership & Development
• Set clear performance objectives and development plans to foster innovation, accountability, and professional growth.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to ensure creative and operational excellence across all functions.
• Cultivate a collaborative and high-performing team culture focused on creativity, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Vendor & Partner Management
• Serve as the primary liaison between Family Dollar and external creative, print, and production vendors.
• Coordinate the creative-to-print process, including design approvals, proofing, color management, and Quality Assurance.
• Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to support contract negotiations and vendor performance management.
Requirements/Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• 5+ years of team leadership experience
• 10+ years of experience in a creative role with a track record of delivering strong creative and flawless execution
• Strong design background, ability to communicate a creative vision, and ensure consistent voice across channels
• Ability to think strategically while managing multiple projects
• Strong attention to detail, collaboration, and communication skills
• Retail and production experience needed
