Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Histology Technician to join our Surgical Pathology department for a 30-week contract assignment covering a full-time equivalent (FTE) leave of absence. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and processing of biopsy and dermatology specimens, adhering to laboratory standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and specialized histological procedures, including embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping of tissue sections
• Ensure proper specimen identification and accurate documentation throughout the preparation process
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure quality control measures are met
• Collaborate with pathologists and lab personnel for an efficient workflow
• Handle derm and biopsy specimens in accordance with protocols and safety guidelines
• Assist with inventory management and maintain cleanliness in the laboratory setting

Required Qualifications:

• Associate’s Degree in Science and completion of an approved, accredited Histology program OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field or equivalent relevant experience
• Valid NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License OR
• Certification as a Histology Technician or Clinical Lab Technician by the New York State Education Department
• 2–3 years of experience in histology, specifically handling biopsy and dermatology specimens
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to laboratory safety and compliance standards
